Potential is nice.
Talent is wonderful.
But so few of us ever use what we have.
You can make an impact that’s better than nice
and bigger than wonderful.
You can be incredible.
— Excerpt from Be Inspi(red)
I found this little red book by my bed in my sister’s guest room when I was visiting last week. It jumped out at me. Maybe because it was red. May because it had the title, “BE INSPI(RED). Anyway, I am glad it did. I’m going to use it here. Because the words on each page are simple yet potent. So, if you will, re-read the excerpt above and meet me back here…
Why I chose this one to begin is because just last night at Nicole’s dinner party we were talking (complaining) about the state of the world, the state of our politics, the state of our minds. We used a lot of “they should” and “because of them” statements. Harlan, Nicole’s husband, caught this and stopped us in our tracks. He reminded us that it is always a person or a small group of people (like the six of us sitting around the table) that create something great. Don’t expect it to be ”them”. We toasted Gandhi and then each one of us. Be the change you want in the world.
For me, it is taking form as ”Women Of Green,” a podcast and network about turning up of the volume of the feminine in the green movement. It’s been living in me for a long time now and my excuses list was just getting too long. But this idea would not leave me alone so I just did it. WomenOfGreen.com will be launching mid-month. So excited.
Now back to the excerpt. If there is something that has been cooking in you for a while and you haven’t done it, do it. If there’s something that moves you but you’re waiting for someone else to make the first move, don’t. Just do it.
What will it take for you to do it? If you need confidence, call your confidence friend and get your fix. If you need accountability, hire a life coach. If you need more finances, get over it. That never stopped an idea whose time has come. There’s no more waiting. You got the goods girl. Just do it. You can make an impact that’s better than nice and bigger than wonderful.
There’s a comment box below for sharing your story with us. If you are stuck, tell us where. If you made the first move, tell us how it happened. If you just decided to do it, tell us why. We’re all in this together.
